Thank you for your participation in our 2024 Community Survey. Our goal for this year’s survey was to understand the diversity and sense of belonging of the WID community (current members and non-members) so that we continue evolving into a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization.
We want to share some high level findings with you, and let you know how we plan to use the survey results. First, here is some information on those who completed the survey:
- Over 180 total respondents (68% current members, 18% past members, 14% potential members)
- The majority work in health, education, or public-society benefit organizations
- Over half represent small to mid-sized shops
- Responses were almost split between those who are seasoned and those mid level or new to the field
- 94% of respondents identify as cisgender female
- 15% identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community
- 20% identify as a person living with a disability
We know we have more work to do to engage and support development professionals of color— over 87% of survey respondents are white.
Here are some of the suggestions we received from the survey about how we can amplify our efforts to become a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization.
- Offer more support for small shops
- Directly engage under-represented groups
- Find ways to lower costs for members
- Intentionally create space through affinity groups
- Increase representation in leadership roles
- Bring in more speakers who represent diverse perspectives
Our board and committees are reviewing all survey results and considering how to use what we’ve learned to inform our membership and programming efforts. If you’d like to be a part of that work, please contact WID at [email protected]. We’d love your support!
