Women in Development of Greater Boston (WID) is a membership organization dedicated to the education and support of advancement professionals through an offering of various programs and services as well as opportunities for volunteer involvement.  Members help one another develop and improve their professional skills, share information about employment opportunities, and foster a climate that promotes professional achievement. Since its founding in 1980 by a small group of development professionals, WID has grown into a vital and highly respected organization not only within Boston, but throughout Massachusetts and New England. Today, it is one of the largest organizations of advancement professionals in Massachusetts.  Our members have varied backgrounds, expertise, and levels and lengths of experience that enrich WID’s culture

WID’s mission is to promote and support the advancement of women in the development profession.

VISION 

To be the leading organization in providing women with the skills and support they need to enter and excel to the highest levels of the development profession.  We will achieve this by providing the most accessible educational and collaborative programs, by growing our membership at all levels of the organization, and by inspiring members to engage in philanthropy as professionals, volunteers, and donors.

Individuals may join WID either as a Nonprofit or an Affiliate Member:

  • Nonprofit Membership – Open to individuals who are or have been affiliated with nonprofit organizations and with primary responsibility for the development of resources to support the organization, or who provide services in the field of institutional advancement and support the mission of WID.
  • Affiliate Membership – Open to individuals who support the mission of WID and are either seeking to transition from the for-profit sector or currently working in an affiliated for-profit business or industry.
