Committees

Active participation on a Women in Development committee is one of the best ways to make WID your organization. All volunteers on WID committees must be current WID members.  Fill out our online application to volunteer to serve on one of these committees.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee’s role is to establish WID Greater Boston as an influential proponent of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms within the region’s development profession. WIDGB will serve as a convener for DEI-related programming and workshops, as a collector and disseminator of related research and data from across the sector, and as a forum for the professional development of diverse advancement professionals.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stay up-to-date on sector-related DEI research and available data and in collaboration with WIDGB Marketing & Communications Committee determine the best avenues for sharing as relevant to the work of WIDGB and its membership.
  • Work in collaboration with WIDGB Programs Committee to create annual programming with a DEI-theme as related to data and research collected.
  • Work in collaboration with WIDGB Nominating & Governance Committee to define board diversity needs and help identify prospective board nominees accordingly.
  • Reach out to and build relationships with other professional associations’ like-committees to explore opportunities to partner and amplify voices and expand audience reach in promotion of DEI work across the sector.
  • Evaluate WIDGB’s communications and messaging to ensure our organization is welcoming for all, recommending appropriate DEI language as necessary.

Governance & Nominating (limited to service by board members)

The Governance & Nominating Committee is charged with planning for Officer and Board succession, discussing issues around long-range planning and associated recommendations to the Executive Committee and the Board, recruiting for Board and Officer positions, and new Board member orientation.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews on an annual basis and updates, as appropriate, Officer, Board Member and Committee Job Descriptions
  • Identifies, interviews and recruits potential candidates for specific Board positions
  • Implements the nomination process
  • Recommends a slate of candidates to the Executive Committee and then a final slate of candidates to the Board for approval
  • Makes formal nominations to the WID membership at the Annual Meeting
  • Conducts exit interviews with outgoing Board Members and prepares report

Marketing and Communications

The Marketing and Communications Committee develops and implements strategies to promote WID’s mission and programs to members and the public via the WID website, social media, quarterly newsletter, communication with outside media, event messaging, and other means. 

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and creatively strategizes with WID committees to develop consistent content to engage and strengthen our WID community and increase membership
  • Produces content for the WID website, social channels [Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn], and quarterly e-newsletter
  • Collaborates with programs team to promote and increase attendance at events

Membership

The Membership Committee plans and implements programs to increase member satisfaction and retention.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates and implements programs that encourage participation by members at all levels, including the New Member Breakfasts, Virtual Power Hours, in person meet-ups and networking events.
  • Assesses member satisfaction, renewal and retention.
  • Follow up with non-member program attendees to encourage them to become WID members.
  • Monitors and implements changes to membership structure and benefits to enhance member recruitment.

Program

The Program Committee coordinates and manages professional development and networking programs offered by WID to the Greater Boston advancement/development community including monthly programs (both virtual and in person) that focus on skill-building subjects.  Committee members are actively involved in all aspects of program management, from identifying and recruiting speakers to meeting management.

COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Select topics, recruits speakers, and manage all program planning content.
  • Work with Tech producer along with speaker(s) to plan all aspects of virtual programs in advance of each program.
  • Assists the speaker(s) in developing presentation as necessary
  • Considers opportunities to collaborate with other WID committees on programming

Special Projects

From time to time, WID engages in time-limited projects around events, membership, or other issues that require special consideration.  For some of these projects, we seek volunteer assistance from within our membership.  These opportunities vary from year to year.
