Navigating Difficult Situations in the Workplace:
An Interactive, In-Depth Workshop on How to Address Inappropriate Behavior, Language, or Bias

Sponsored by:

Jamie Hays Szelc and Wesley Ellison Stewart of JWS Empowerment Solutions have over 20 years of executive leadership experience that informs their hands-on, engaging training and support of high-performing teams. Grounded in personal storytelling, paired with proven tools for progress, JWS Empowerment encourages stories to be shared so we can build awareness, foster community, and empower action. Development professionals are confronted with inappropriate behavior all the time, across industries, at every stage of their careers—but it doesn't have to be that way. To foster high-performing teams and keep top talent in our field, leaders must prioritize safe, inclusive, and supportive workplaces. We know that difficult conversations in the workplace are unavoidable. Ignoring the problem opens an organization up to reputational and safety risks. In this workshop, we will dive into practical tools to empower Women in Development members to tackle the challenge head on, so that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. The key objectives we will focus on during the interactive 3-hour workshop include:

  • Provide tools and communication methods for you to address and navigate a situation in which they encounter inappropriate behavior, language, or bias in the workplace
  • Empower you to feel safe and authentic in your professional roles representing your respective organization/institution
  • Provide tools and best practices for you on how to best support and advocate for your team members that encounter/experience inappropriate behavior in the workplace.
