As we transition from Black History Month to Women's History Month, I reflect on times and spaces when I was the only Black woman: two identities that will always be true for me and that I proudly stand on.
I often say that “people lean into places where they see themselves,” and my personal mission as president of Women in Development of Greater Boston is to use this platform to continue creating spaces where individuals can see themselves learning, growing, reaching their aspirations—and connecting with incredible people along the way so they are not the ‘only’ in any space.
My hope is that WIDGB is a place you find yourself leaning into, as our work to broaden and diversify continues, as does our commitment to deliver valuable programming and events to our membership. If you aren't already a member, we hope you'll attend a future program and consider becoming part of a community committed to the ever-important work of philanthropy.
I invite you to note the contributions that Black people and women have made to history AND philanthropy, not just in February and March—but every month. Amplify and support individuals who work tirelessly and selflessly to help create positive change for others, not just for one month or one day, but every day.
